2025 Poster Contest Theme: “Home is where the Habitat is”
The Gallia Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors an annual poster contest for grades K-12. The poster contest theme changes each year based on the NACD (National Association of Conservation Districts) national theme. The rules and guidelines are followed by the NACD rules.
The Stewardship and Education Committee has developed a five-year rotation for stewardship topics – water, soil, habitat, forestry, and a topic of interest – and determines the theme each year. The 2025 Poster Contest and Stewardship Week theme is “HOME IS WHERE THE HABITAT IS". Posters must have this displayed as the title. Please go to www.nacdnet.org - click on Conservation Education Hub tab and then - and look for Contests for more detailed info! Lots of great resources!
Due May 2nd to our office...and only open to any school or student in Gallia County. Please have student entry form filled out with each poster.

Congratulations to this year's Raina Fulks Memorial Scholarship Recipients Emma Truance and Jena Watson.
Emma is the daughter of Gary and Karen Truance of Vinton. Emma is a 2024 graduate of River Valley High School. Emma has plans to attend The Ohio State University this fall with a focus on Agribusiness and Applied Economics. She then would like to pursue a law degree in hopes of becoming an agriculture lawyer. Emma ultimately wants to protect the everyday small-time local farmer.
Jena is the daughter of Danny Watson and Andra Bailey of Crown City. Jena is a 2024 graduate of South Gallia High School. Jena’s plans include attending The Ohio State University ATI majoring in Natural Resources and Conservation with a specialization in Forestry, Fishery, and Wildlife. The Gallia SWCD Board of Supervisors and Staff send best wishes as these two are headed to The Ohio State University Main Campus and ATI Campus.

2024 Kid's Fishing Derby Re-Cap
The Gallia County Conservation Club and Gallia County Soil and Water Conservation District would like to thank everyone who came out to the 2024 Kid's Fishing Derby at the Land Lab Pond at the Gallia County Jr Fairgrounds!
We had 74 kids registered, and with family, we had over 130 in attendance. To say it was a success is truly an understatement!
Special Thanks to Wildlife Officer Tyler Fields and Wildlife Officer Cole Tilton for helping with the event, not only did they help keep score but they also were able to spread a little wildlife education to the kids.
Shout Out and Thank You to Outdoorsmen's Cave for providing bait. They also set up a station for everyone to check out the different baits available at their store. Julie Simmons of Outdoorsmen's Cave also sponsored a Fish ID Contest. Congratulation Grant Lanier for winning that contest!!
Thank you needs to be given to the Gallia Shooting Aces 4-H Club for preparing and serving lunch, and community members for being the judges for our derby!
