Thank you Sayre Flannagan - Assistant Professor University of Rio Grande for coming to talk birds with us!
Sayre brought in bird specimens for us to have an up close look, taught us the different bird songs, why their becks are shaped the way they are, how their colors are important, and so much more! She even took us out bird watching. We saw seven different types of birds in less than ten minutes, including a Red Tailed Hawk! Each family left the evening with a blue bird box, that were cut out and built by The Gallipolis FFA Chapter! A huge thanks to the FFA students- it was a great highlight of the evening for our guest! Thank you Gallia County for making these events worth hosting! #GalliaSWCD #EducationalOutreach #MommyAndMe #GoBirdWatching |

Long Live the Queen! It was all the "BUZZ" at Mommy and Me Busy Bees Workshop on Thursday, May 8th! Chris Blank of Gallia Bees and the Gallia County Bee Inspector "buzzed" us in with all the need to know about the Eastern Honey Bee!!
We got to spend time together painting planters, planting flowers, discussing all things bees, tasting honey, seeing bee pests, and sharing lots of laughs! Thank you to all that came and spent the evening with us and a special thanks to Chris Blank for speaking and bringing us up close and personal with some of his bee equipment and his real live bees!! Huge thanks to the Fellowship of Faith Rio Grande for letting us use your beautiful facilities. Did you know that Fellowship of Faith Rio Grande has a wildflower walking path?! You are encouraged to go check it out! It's almost time for the wildflower to bloom! |
2024 Gallia's Mommy and Me Owl Workshop
|
What a "Hootin' Good Time" we had at the Mommy and Me Owl Workshop on Thursday! Dr. Wayne Rossiter "silently" (if you know you know, owls are silent flyers) blew us all away with his presentation on Ohio Owls and MEGA owl pellets! - Did you know under a black light or UV light you can age an owl with the porphyrins in their feathers! We got to spend time together painting owl planters, planting flowers, dissecting owl pellets, and sharing lots of laughs! Thank you to all that came and spent the evening with us and a special thanks to Dr. Wayne Rossiter for coming to speak and bring us up close and personal with some of his owl research!
Thank you to For His Glory 4-H Club for all the cookie donations to help feed the guests, thank you Joslyn Riegel for her assistance with the owl pellets, and thank you to the Payne and Riegel families for staying late to help clean up the room. With all the wonderful feedback and kind words we hope to continue this event next year. It's amazing people like you all that keep us wanting to hold these types of workshops! Please continue to share pictures with us either below or message us and we will add them to the post! Happy Mother's Day! #GalliaSWCD #EducationalOutreach #OwlsAreCool #OwlsHaveSuperPowers |
