Gallia Soil and Water Conservation District

Established October 6, 1944

Robert L. Woodward grew up in Gallia County on

the family farm operated by his parents, George

and Nona Woodward.  He graduated from Gallia

Academy High School and received a degree from

Columbus State University in Civil Engineering. 

 

He is married and has three grown children and

two grandchildren.  Robert has been farming with

his father and brother for 35 years.  He and his

wife, Jane, own a 110 acre hay and beef cattle

farm in Green Township.  He is currently a construction coordinator for Dynamix Engineering

Joe L Dailey was born and reared in Gallia County.  As a young child he was practicing agriculture by planting tomatoes and strawberries for the family-owned produce market.  As a teen, he worked for the Ohio Produce Company where he became knowledgeable in all aspects of farming and fertilizer sales.  He was an auto mechanic for several years and worked with a tire company for 13 years.  After working for the tire company, he opened his own tire business.

Since retirement, Joe continues to farm.  He and his wife currently have a 200+ acre farm where they raise cattle and hay.  He has 2 children and 4 grandchildren which are the highlight of his life. Joe enjoys fishing and hunting; especially bow hunting deer and spring turkey hunting. 

Joe is proud to be on the Gallia Soil and Water Board and enjoys working with the staff and other board members.

 

Lawrence graduated with a biology major from the University of Rio Grande, and was a Biology teacher from 1967-1978.  He has lived on his family’s farm his entire life.  He has been a full time beef cattle farmer the past 30 years: both cow/calf and feed lot.  He and his wife Judy have 4 children together.

Lawrence has been on the board of supervisors since 1984.  He is also vice-president of the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

 

David Carter was born and raised on the family farm in Gallia County by his parents Merrill and Marguerite Carter.  A graduate of Southwestern High School, he went on to receive a B.S. degree in Agronomy and a M.S degree in Education from Ohio State University.  After college, he spent 5 years as a Vo Ag teacher at Hannan Trace High School.  He then move to Butler County and was the District Administrator for Butler SWCD for 27 1/2 years.

He has 2 children and now resides on the family farm; which consists of 290 acres and is presently being leased for the production of beef cattle.  He is a member of the Genealogic Society and the Butler County Farm Bureau.

Merrill was born in Lawrence County, Ohio to Clay and Barbara Baker.  He graduated from Southwestern High School and went on to receive a degree in Economics and Business Management from the University of Rio Grande.

 

He has been involved in agriculture his entire life.  He, along with his brother Darrell and father Clay, owns and operates the “Baker Family Farms”.  The farm includes 1100 acres and consists of a 300 head cow/calf operation, 2 acres of tobacco and 25+acres of corn.  He is a member of Pride in Tobacco and the Cattleman’s Association.  He likes to hunt and fish in his spare time.  He as been a Gallia SWCD supervisor since 2002.
