The Gallia County Conservation Club and Gallia County Soil and Water Conservation District would like to thank everyone who came out this past Saturday for the Kid's Fishing Derby at the Land Lab Pond at the Gallia County Jr Fairgrounds!
We had 62 kids registered, and with family, we had over 120 in attendance. To say it was a success is truly an understatement!
Thank you needs to be given to the Gallia Shooting Aces 4-H Club for preparing and serving lunch, and community members for being the judges for our derby!
If you have pictures you would like to share with us please message them to our Facebook page! We would love to see all the fish caught as we had many catch their very 1st fish at our derby!!
We thank the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio Division of Wildlife for making these events possible through grants from the Wildlife & Sport Fish Restoration program.

Raina Fulks Memorial Scholarship
Congratulations to this year's Raina Fulks Memorial Scholarship Recipients Kelsey Price and Ryleigh Halley.
Kelsey is the daughter of Bret and Jenna Price of Vinton. Kelsey is a 2022 graduate of River Valley High School and is currently attending the University of Rio Grande majoring in Meat Sciences. Kelsey has plans to attend Vet School in hopes of obtaining her veterinarian license for both small and large animals. She wants to bring her talents and veterinary medicine practice to Gallia County to give back to her home community.
Ryleigh is the daughter of James Halley and Kari Mayes of Crown City. Ryleigh is a recent graduate from South Gallia High School. Ryleigh’s plans include attending the University of Rio Grande majoring in Meat Sciences. Ryleigh has set the bar high for herself as she would like to become a well-known and respected Livestock Judge that travels the country analyzing livestock of many species. In addition to her optimal goal of becoming a successful person, she wants to bring her talents back to the Gallia County Jr. Fair and judge all the livestock for the week like Ryan Rash did in 2021.
The Gallia SWCD Board of Supervisors and Staff send best wishes as these two are headed back to the University of Rio Grande this fall.
We are looking forward to the next set of scholarship applications. We encourage all graduating seniors and college students studying any agricultural or natural resources related majors to apply for the Raina Fulks Memorial Scholarship.
The 2024 Raina Fulks Memorial Scholarship will be available soon at galliaswcd.com or to request an application call 740-446-6173 ext 3. The deadline for the Scholarship is April 26th, 2024.
